Chattanooga weekend
For Labor Day weekend we took off on a little trip down to Chattanooga, Tennessee. We had such a great time!!! The kids did much better then we thought on the 400 mile journey. We arrived late afternoon on Friday and hit the ground running by heading to our first stop! There are links throughout just in case you want to start planning a trip to Chattanooga. :)

After our train ride we headed to the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo for dinner and to checkout some more trains.

Saturday morning we walked over to the Tennessee Aquarium. We toured the Ocean wonders first that included a touch pool and a butterfly arboretum. Then we went over the River Journey building and had the chance to see river displays from around the world. They also had a great sea horse exhibit!

After naps we thought we could fit in one more excursion for the day. Ruby Falls had been on our "if we have time" list. We headed up Lookout Mtn. to check it out. The line was pretty long and by the time we reached the ticket counter they told us that it was at least two hours for the tour. Josh and I had dinner plans with some friends of mine so we opted not to risk missing our dinner reservations. John, Rachel, Gabe and Porter headed into the cave to check it out. Josh and I went up to the observation tower and then I took him on a more local tour of part of the city. We took a short drive up Signal Mtn. to get a look at the "spaceship house" and to drive the W road.

Sunday morning after church Josh and I headed out to Kimball to visit with Geneva and her grandson Landon and Logan. We met them for lunch and then headed to the house to visit a little longer. It was so great seeing Geneva and the boys. They have gotten so big! Time sure has flown by. On our way to to see them we got stopped on the interstate due to an accident. Luckily I remembered the back way! One of the perks of living there before :)

After our visit out in Kimball we met up with John and Rachel to head to my favorite Chattanooga attraction-Rock City! Gabe had a blast running around on all the trails! I could spend hours at the overlook on a clear day. Personally I would say its a must see if you are ever in the area!

After our busy day of visiting and playing on the rocks we headed to dinner and stopped off for some Ben & Jerry's on the way back to the hotel. We were staying just behind the Chattanooga Lookout stadium. That night the game ended with a fireworks display, we were able to catch most of it while enjoying our ice cream treats outside!

Before we headed back we were able to squeeze in one more activity per family. John, Rachel, Gabe and Porter headed over to the Creative Discovery Museum. Gabe (and John) LOVED it. Gabe had been seeing the Curious George display everyday and was very excited to finally be able to see him. Josh and I took some time and walked over the bridge to Coolidge park. We took Zach on his first carousel ride, where he rode on Tucker the tiger. Zach had a great time, until he decided the ride was lasting too long so we turned him around to ride facing backwards and he just laughed the rest of the ride. We walked back over the Walnut Street bridge, took one more picture with the river front and met John and Rachel for some lunch at the Big River Grille for some lunch and their home brewed root beer!

Yep, thats all we did in our 2 1/2 ish days down there! Hopefully the trip lived up to Gabe's expectations considering he "has waited his whole life to see this!"

I love the pictures of your trip to Chattanooga! Seeing them bring back some memories of my own! It looks like you all had a great time. It was good to see Geneva and the boys! It is hard to figure out who is who! But I do see the family resemblance to their uncle.
thanks for sharing!
Looks like you guys had a wonderful time! We might have to take a road trip to Chattanooga next year!! :)
