Josh was joking the whole 10 minute ride to the orchard that he really can't imagine there being much of an orchard in Las Vegas. Well, he was half right! The trees were pretty small and it wasn't a huge place, in fact it was the smallest field of pumpkins I have ever seen called a pumpkin patch! But all in all we had a nice time. The kids loved picking out their pumpkins and trying to carry them. Zachary thought the apple trees were pretty exciting too. He was set on picking at least a few apples to take home with him. Or it could have been the fact that it was well past noon and we still hadn't had lunch. This orchard has very limited hours and closes at 2pm the four days a week they are open. And those are extended hours due to the season!
And I must give Josh some special credit for supporting my college football habit! He is such a good sport about it all, when in reality he could pretty much care less! I had our whole family in Oregon State gear that morning (Zach had a little mishap with some red juice and his white shirt just after breakfast). It's kind of a fall Saturday tradition around here, the kids and I put on our OS shirts each weekend. One of the best parts is, since we are back out west people actually recognize the team. It was especially noticed on Saturday because Oregon State was up in Provo playing BYU! We got lots of double take glances from the "bleeding blue" fans as they sported their blue and white around the pumpkin patch!
Maybe next year we will be somewhere (meaning on vacation) with a more traditional pumpkin patch, but until then it's Vegas style!
See that bright orange shirt down there???
That's Josh and Zachary picking their Granny Smith apples while Molly and I wait in line to pay for the pumpkins. Bright orange shirts do come in handy!
Zachary enjoying the fruits of his labor!
And last but not least, Mom and Dad's treat from the orchard--apple cider donuts! Tasty enough we would go back for more!
