Back
in May when Katie and I met for the first time, we started talking and
planning to run the Color Me Rad 5K in October. Katie had never run a 5K
before, and it was a goal of hers before she turned the big 3-0 at the end
of October. Well, if you know me, you know I jumped on the opportunity
to run a race with someone! It doesn't take much to convince me to join
in. In fact, I am usually the one convincing others to join me!
It
was about a month later that I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and
was told my plan to run a half marathon in early November would be
nearly impossible. At the time, that was some of the most crushing news
for me to try and deal with. It would be hard because I was told that
once I had surgery, I wouldn't be able to run until the first part of
September. From couch to 13.1 miles in 8 weeks-- that wasn't a challenge
even I was willing to take on. So, I chose to focus on this 5k! I
only had three goals 1-to cross the finish line, 2-to run the entire
race, 3-to be there at the finish line with my sweet friend as she
crossed the finish line and be able to check something off her bucket
list. I am happy to
say I was able to do all three! And an added bonus- we had my friend
Lisa join us too! I asked her about joining us just a couple of weeks
before
the race, and come to find out, it was her first 5k too!

I can
now check a color run off my bucket list too. It was a great time but not
something I need to do again anytime soon...colored corn starch and
asthma isn't the best combo for running a 5k.
