95 years!

Our first squadron event was a dining out celebrating the 95th birthday of the 15th Reconnaissance Squadron. This is a big deal because it was one of the founding squadrons in the Air Force.  The 15th originated in the Army Air Corps and is actually older then the Air Force!
It was a nice night of Josh and I getting dressed up and out to the house! Since we are so new, we really didn't know anyone but were fortunate enough to run into some one Josh knew from BYU. His wife and I hit it off immediately and we became dinner table companions. Since this event was celebrating the history of the 15th RS, there were special guest who had previously served in the 15th at various times all around the world. We just happened to select a table that seated a guest who had flew RF-4s in the Vietnam War. It was interesting to here some of his old war stories and Josh was abel to ask all kinds of "pilot" questions. I am pretty sure Bob, enjoyed answering the question even more then Josh enjoyed asking them!

And keeping with AF tradition there was a Grog and all rules that went along with it. Thankfully it was pretty tame and not many attendees were made to drink. The evening ended with a guest speaker, LtGen Ronnie Hawkins. He is the father of the one of the Major Ronnie Hawkins Jr., a pilot 15th. It was interesting hearing his perspective on the current mission of the MQ-1's 15th and their impact on the War on Terror. He kept things very "big picture Air Force" but it was still nice to hear a little bit about what Josh does, or can do.

The deployed home station is very different and it will take so getting used to. Everyone around us is so intrigued by what Josh does, but thats because there are not many military families around us. Las Vegas has such a high population density that the military families are pretty spread out, especially the ones that are stationed at Creech. Its very unlike Mississippi and the complete opposite of living on base in Ohio! But since Josh cant share a lot of what he does at work it seems to make people all the more curious! Josh had his final check ride today and is training complete! Wooo Hooo! Now its time to settle into a routine--with rotating shifts and days off...well its our norm for the next 3 years!

Pardon the horrible red eyes, we only had our camera phones with us at the dinner.
