On the run

Whenever we head "home" for a trip it's never what I would call a vacation. We are constantly on the go! Whether it's visiting family and friends or checking off some of our must do's while here, we always seem to be gone until after bedtime nearly every day.

This trip to Oregon was very different from all of our other trips. Normally we plan for a few months or at least a few weeks. This time I had 24 hours between finding out we needed to be there and actually leaving. Thank goodness for adrenaline because that's what got me through that week. As soon as we got the calls letting us know that my Grandpa had passed away, I immediately started formulating a plan---how quickly can I get my Mom back to OR, when can Josh leave, are we driving for flying...the list could go on. And then our plans changed late Monday afternoon due to the day the services were scheduled. I had already booked my Mom a flight to Oregon for early Tuesday morning but I had just over 48 hours to get to Oregon with my three kids in tow. Being just under 4 weeks post surgery and minus Josh that was going to be quite a task! Thank goodness I have a great brother, who was too sick to help us himself, offer to fly one of my cousins down to Las Vegas so she could make the road trip to OR with me. We had Abbey's flight booked by 6 pm on Monday evening. She landed at 9 am on Tuesday and by then I had us loaded and ready to hit the road. We made it to Oregon around 7 pm Wednesday night and kept the momentum going until we pulled back into our driveway 16 days and 2971 miles later!
